Hello,

I am a web developer currently talking to an IT person about deploying a website using Git on a client's cPanel server. His position is that Git is currently incompatible with cPanel and references this post: https://forums.cpanel.net/f391/installing-git-294411.html as evidence.

The server is a CentOS 6.3 server. I am not sure about the cPanel version since I don't have login yet.

I would like to know if this is cPanel's official recommendation to not install Git with cPanel? I just want to find out what you officially support, and even though I have previously used Git with cPanel, I could just drop the request to IT and move on.

cPanelTristan's (a Technical Analyst III at cPanel, Inc.) comments in that thread would be enough for me, if I wanted to do what you seek, to take the extra steps of testing myself installing GIT on a cPanel Powered Server that's not being used in production. If it makes a mess, your accounts are still safe on another server.

I would guess that's about as official a response as you'll get on this. If she says it breaks stuff, I believe her.
