Google unable to connect to cPanel using SMTP server

Hello,
I'm trying to configure my gmail and cPanel accounts so that I can send mail through my SMTP server - that is send from gmail as if from my cPanel account.

No matter what port I use or what level of connection (TLS, SSL, unsecured) I get this error message:
"Authentication failed. Please check your username/password.
[Server response: DNS Error: Address resolution of smtp.********.net. failed: Domain name not found code(0) ]"

Note: I put in ***** in place of the domain name.

Can anyone tell me what to do about this?
Any thoughts would be very appreciated.

Hello

Have you created an "A" record for "smtp.domain.com" in the DNS zone of the domain name? Typically, "mail.domain.com" is used because the "mail" record is created by default.
