grant ssh access

    what is the best/secure way to give ssh access?

    Also, to use WHM > Host Access Control to restrict sshd to only approved IPs. All other IPs should be set to deny there for the service.

    I would likewise suggest adding the same for whostmgrd service in that same area. Basically, only allow IPs that you want to be able to log into WHM as root or reseller user and deny all other IPs.
