cPanel 12 is still quite aways off (cPanel 11 builds just went out last week). Generally we don't make a habit of prereleasing new versions because nobody ever likes the first version (sad, but true). We are only attempting to show off the basic working idea. Showing it off (evolution) in the pre release stage appears to have more of a negitive effect for most. That being said, please realize that evolution is still in the working phase and is not complete (far from it). The main entry screen will probably go though quite a few more redesigns before it ever makes it out into the public tree. The main goal of displaying it was to show how flexable our new ui api can be.
Yeah, no one likes change thats for sure, unless its done right. We just redid our entire site and not one complaint (so far! thankfully) . As a matter of fact, glowing rviews across the boards. I'd be interested in knowing more about your comments on the ui API and what sort of docs will be released, if any, and if there are any plans to expand on the cpanel accounting module similar to the scripts you see floating around these forums...

OMG! Even without seeing it because the demo doen't work for us (different providers and computers) and allways disliked the cPanel GUI too much I can only say that with all the money cPanel gets every month from many users from all over the world, stop being cheap and start hiring a real designer or better a real designer firm who are specialized in killer GUI design. It's a shame that such a fine product for all those years has to live with such, dare I say it, crappy design around itself.

Please listen to all users worldwide and make cPanel finally a professional product in total by giving it a professional design made by real professionals! It really needs and deserves it just like we the customers need and deserve it.

Considering its about the 5th complete redesign, I'd say quite a bit. The whole premis behind the new api system is that the UI can be infinately more flexible. The one thing we have learned from this is that everyone likes and hates something different about the theme, if there was something more concrete we would just change it. At this point we have decided to just improve the x theme, and drop work on evolution for now. We will come back to working on a new theme once all the new api code has been backported into x.
I was referring to this commnet

Its based on an early version of the evolution theme, so there will be a few more changes before the official release.
We've been using cpanel what 5 years now so I'm well aware of the changes it has gone through. I'm waiting for the focus to change from features to bug fixes but it aint coming yet. I'm sure more users would appreciate full clustering before a game server addon or similar.

oh pleas e- can we first please make sure the bugginess of the software gets dealt with before we're having someone who obviously dooesn't have a clue of decent design focus on the development of a theme?

With all due respect - the only advantage cPanel has over its competition is the amount of features they offer and how the end user really likes these little bells everywhere... Unfortunately, it gives us more headaches due to the included bugs and stuff like that...

As someone said before - plesk's layout is WAY MORE professional for a CONTROL PANEL than cpanel will ever get when continuing in this direction...

I have use plesk before and although it has this professional windows xp look.
It is slow. Difficult to update too.
cPanel is fast but if it's able to come up with a more simple and user friendly design.
Everyone will come to cPanel

Error in validation

I have been testing out your latest version of cPanel, some impressive features but lacking in validation in some areas  it's good to see you have started to incorporate AJAX to make the interfaces much cleaner.

However when selecting SSL then Certificates (CRT) Generate, view, upload, or delete SSL certificates. I
when to generate a certification and you have not validated the email address field properly you accept
the following:

[email protected]@

And with this email address I get a generated certification successfully. This is the first page I have only checked out
so I guess their will be more bugs comming. I think Ill document what I find then release them all at once.

I think you would be wasting your time. As mentioned this was meant to be a preview, and judging by the turnout in here it may or may not even be used.

First and foremost: Don't hire Ceonix to design cPanel. For the love of God, don't. Their flashy, table-based hackjob designs are far too "heavy" for something like a control panel. Even for web sites, I think they're just best at "wowing" clients with animation, noise, and clichéd design elements like pipes, bars, and other techno crap that's been done to death by them and 2advanced and so on.

Keep it simple. CSS, HTML. You won't need frames if the pages are lightweight, and you cache the slow-loading parts of the page (server stats that have to be compiled before pageloads, for example).

I think the design contest would be great for cPanel. It'd be a wicked marketing campaign, and it'd get people psyched about the new release. And, in the end, it'll result in a much more agile and capable cPanel.

This is the email i sent to the pr dept for cpanel after talking with some1 on the phone there... btw i removed my personal info.

Suggestion regarding cPanel 12 Evolution

To Whom It May Concern:

I am a current lifetime license holder of the cpanel/whm application. I have been reviewing the responses that you have received via the cPanel forums to the new design layout, and have seen an 50/50 response to the new design, with many stating for cPanel to hire a professional company (thread located here http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?t=55998 ). I don’t believe it is necessary for cPanel to hire a company to design a theme for the upcoming version, but am suggesting an alternative to accomplish the same thing without it costing cPanel money.

My Suggestion:
Hold a contest, and allow cPanel customers to submit design ideas, which you could even hold a vote via the forums or cPanel website. Offer a reward of like 6 months or a year free tech support (or something along the same lines that would not actually cost cPanel any money out of pocket).

Since no matter what the design you will not make every customer happy, you guys could possibly include the top 3 designs as a theme in the new version.

I believe that you will accomplish a few things by doing this,

1. By allowing customers to submit their design ideas, you are making them even more involved in the creation of the software they are purchasing, which will only increase customer loyalty to your company.

2. By allowing customers to vote on their favorite designs you accomplish 2 things... one being again that they are more involved in the version, second you will eliminate any ill-will from someone’s design not picked because customers decided... not cPanel itself.

3. A better looking product by allowing companies, and people who specialize in the design side to submit entrees.

All in all I think that this idea can be great for pr, and if you limit it to customers only it may sway some that were still considering their options to purchase cPanel.

It is a good idea, however a cash reward may be a bit more "rewarding". cPanel discounts or free licensing may be an idea. I, as many other pay an additional fee to use cPanel. There is an "out of pocket" cost for everyone to use cPanel, so why should they not have to make any "out of pocket" expenditures? After all this is a business and not a open-source organization that relies on a community of developers for further enrichment.

I am not against the idea of a contest. However, as I have stated before in this thread that there is dire need for the continued enhancement of cPanel. Having a good looking, practical, and user friendly theme that will be updated continually with the same flare is a priority.

Any progress on the Evo cpanel? It looks the same...
Keep your eyes peeled. Evo was a testbed for cPanel 12 features. You should see something nice in cPanel 11 or maybe even sooner.
