Gzip Module

    More specifically the Gzip Apache module compresses data sent from your server to any client whose browser supports gzip decompression.

    It is useful to decrease bandwidth, but does use more CPU time than sending data uncompressed.

    Also, since most images and videos are already compressed it does not decrease the size of those by much. The size change on text/html files is noticable.

    I believe it is still marked as experimental, so I would not recommend it unless you really know what you're doing.
