Hi All:

I received a smartcheck e-mail informing me that hda is beginning to fail. The messages log confirms this. I have a question regarding restoring the server:

1. I am runing a cpanel box with 2 harddrives. Hda and Hdb.
2. The majority of my accounts are on Hdb but some are on Hda. The linux distro and the cPanel software are installed on Hda.
3. If I get Hda replaced will I need to restore the accounts on Hdb or will the restore version of cPanel automatically pick them up? The name for Hdb is home2.

Any advice and assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

You have to restore them all, cPanel isn't that clever ;)

If your troublesome disk isn't dead yet, you could always ask them to mirror (e.g. using dd or ghost) your existing disk to a new one so that all you would then have to do is simply boot off the new one and all would be as it was before.

Good idea. I use Ev1Servers. Do you know off hand if they do such things? I e-mailed support but I have not heard from them yet.

Hi Brian,

I doubt they would, since they only really offer minimal support. Never hurts to ask, though. You might want to contact their support manger as well for viable options. The email address is on their contact page:
