Header and footer?

Hi,

I need to edit the header image of the website. Rather than a logo on the left I'd like to give it a "background-image" with the logo included. I found the header file after getting into WHM and setting the FTP details so I could connect, its a PHTML file, I'm aware of HTML and CSS, but the file seems to consist of a few line's of random echo'd Javascript content.

Could anyone advise me? My knowledge doesn't go much further than HTML and CSS.
