[Solved] Help: 550 Sender verify failed

I just upgraded to WHM/cPanel 11. Everything seems to work fine, but for some reason mails are blocked from some servers. It seems that even gmail.com is being rejected. I get the following message from gmail's mailer-daemon:

    Code:
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

        rehuel@stretsh.com

    Technical details of permanent failure:
    PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 13): 550-Verification failed for <stretsh@gmail.com>
    550-unrouteable mail domain "gmail.com"
    550 Sender verify failed

Is there something I overlooked? I already removed the checks from "Verify the existence of email senders." and "Use callouts to verify the existence of email senders." checkboxes.

I did check them out. I tried all the suggestions.

My problem is when I try to send a mail TO my server from outside.

When I do a "exim -bt stretsh@gmail.com" I get the following message:
stretsh@gmail.com is undeliverable: unrouteable mail domain "gmail.com"

Everything worked fine until I upgraded.

    hi,
go to exim configuration editor in root whm, there near the end you have a button to "reset the configuration" that might help you in solving this issue.

    see ya,

    No luck.

Same message, same "sender verify fail for <stretsh@gmail.com>: unrouteable mail domain "gmail.com" error in exim_mainlog

Could this have something to do with DNS? I'm just asking cause maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. And why is this suddenly a problem, after upgrading to WHM11-CURRENT? What was changed?

I changed my installation back to STABLE, rolling back to CP10. Mails are now sent from and to the outside as normal. But now I dont get any mail. The logs do say that the mail is delivered, but it's no where to be found. Not downloaded to my client, not in webmail.

Could it have something to do with converting to maildir?

    Solved... for now!

I solved my problem by downgrading my installation back to the latest Stable build. After that I had tt convert maildir back to mbox to get my accounts to receive their mails.

I'll wait for version 11 STABLE to try it out again.

    Thanls for the help

Agreed. I run release builds and highly considering stable instead.

I couldn't find anything about this issue. Do I have to submit a bug report or something similar to notify the dev crew of these problems?

The problem seemed to be with converting from mbox to maildir. I have rolled back to the current STABLE, hoping it will be fixed when the next STABLE is released, but I'm worried that this is not a regular occurring incident so it may be overlooked.

    Any advise?

After a couple of months, I finally decide to install cpanel 11 STABLE, but still I have the same problem.

I checked everything: no mailtrap and mailtrap turned off in conf, resolv.conf is ok, all of the steps in other thread were tried, but I still get the unrouteable mail domain message if I do exim -bt.

I converted from mbox to maildir.

    Anyone with some advise?

From a shell prompt type: dig gmail.com mx

If you don't see a bunch of MX lines similar (but not necessarily the same) as the ones below, then you have a problem with your DNS resolving external domains.

    gmail.com. 2423 IN MX 10 alt2.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com.
    gmail.com. 2423 IN MX 50 gsmtp163.google.com.
    gmail.com. 2423 IN MX 50 gsmtp183.google.com.
    gmail.com. 2423 IN MX 5 gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com.
    gmail.com. 2423 IN MX 10 alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com.

I suspect that is what your problem is. If you do a 'dig gmail.com mx' and you don't get any MX lines of any value and you feel you need assistance, PM me info to log in and take a look and I will. Otherwise, go searching for dns not resolving external domains.

Hey Mike, thanks for the reply.

I do get all those MX lines. My DNS seems to work normally.

Is there anything else I can check before pm-ing you?

    D'oh!!

I had attribs added to both the exim.conf and the exim.conf.buildtest to prvent any upgrade script from just changing the mail whenever they felt like. For the upgrade I removed the chattr from the exim.cnf, but not from the buildtest, so I never got the new config file.

    Thanks for baring with me!

Ahh, I would never have thought of that. Good deal though. Glad you have things working again!
