I want to change the host name on one of my machines.

example: host.xxxxx.net

to host.xxxxx5.net

I see the function in WHM to change host name.

I don't want to change the name servers ns1., etc.

I want to change the name that appears in the FTP
login, email headers etc.

Does anyone know how to do this step-by-step.

Thanks in advance.

First step would be to register it with your domain name register (the same area where you add the name servers).

You would go through the steps as if you were registering a new name server. After it has resolved then change it in WHM.

Also its good to go through the files in /etc and double check they show the new server name. (hosts etc)

Also dont forget to add the A entry for the DNS zone, there is a link there in that WHM section for automaticly adding the server name A entry.

It should be a fuly qualified domain name ie if you want to use host.myserver5.com then myserver5.com should be a registered domain name. Better idea would be to use host5.myserver.com
