what linux distro are you using? if redhat did you do a server install? Also are you connected to the internet when running this install?

There is a problem with the Perl install script in the Red Hat 7.3 install program. If you comment out the lines that install Perl in the install program, the install will run fine.

It might have something to do with this:

I've installed the RedHat 7.3 installer many times now and it's worked perfectly.

Are you using the one dated Sat Mar 23 10:34:00 2002? I have tried it on 3 different machines and it will not run with the Perl install unless Expect is updated first...

our cpanel layers here are updates every night so we allways use the latest installer. I cant remember the last cpanel install i did. but i'm on a machine now that i just did one on not too long ago by looking at the data on the installer dir that was created it says the 24th. So i'm assuming it went ok. I'm going to do a test install now with vmware. I will let you know how it goes.

    the install went fine....

again this is on a redhat 7.3 Server Install and i removed the clasic X package (stupid redhat, who use's X on a server anyway). I would have pasted the screen but vmware doesnt have a copy paste feature (that sucks.)

Installing cpanel-redhat7.3-install.sea on a server install of RedHat 7.3 now as well, and it's been on &Upgrading Perl& for almost an hour now. And this is a 1.6Ghz P4 machine.

I would apprecaite any help on how to get this resolved. I've done many installs on older RedHat's, and never had any problems like this.

If it's of any help, this is how far the installer gets:

    [root@canada1 home]# sh cpanel-redhat7.3-install.sea
    Creating directory installd
Verifying archive integrity...cpanel-redhat7.3-install.sea: [: 3726093244: integer expression expected
    OK
    Uncompressing cplyr1-DarkORB-03.23.2002........................................................................................................................................................................................
    Cpanel [4.6] Layer 1 Installer Init.....Done
This install will take 10-70 minutes depending on your hardware.
Now is the time to go get another cup of coffee/jolt.
The install will log to /var/log/cp4install.log.
    Syncing with time server......Mon Jun 3 19:08:14 EDT 2002..Done
    Installing Default resolv.conf....Done
    Repairing OS Problems....Done
    Installing Support Libs.................................................................................................Done

    Ensuring /etc/passwd is shadowed...Done
    Removing incompatible rpms....Done
    Setting Permissions and shells...Done

    Upgrading perl..-

As you can see, everything runs perfectly until it gets to upgrading perl. And I haven't been impatient -- I've given it over an hour, and it's still at the same spot.

I would very much appreciate a solution!

    I figured it out!

Basically, if it stalls at the upgrading perl stage, wait a few minutes to make sure it has really stalled. If nothing moves, hit CTRL + C to return to the prompt, delete the installd directory, and then try running the installer again.

Repeat this until it gets past the upgrading perl stage successfully. I had to do this 4 times.

I'm using vmware and not having it save changes to the disk. So each time it's like me installing cpanel for the first time.

Cpanel's rsync server seams to be having some issues today...
