    uname -r

will tell you what kernel you're running. The kernel out of memory error sounds like you're trying to run too much on a small machine.

Are you running hard hitting web sites? Is this a new error? Have you upgraded Apache recently?

    uname -r = 2.4.20

The kernel out of memory error sounds like you're trying to run too much on a small machine.....Not at all

Are you running hard hitting web sites? .......Nope, most bandwith usage was around 50 gigs & only around 125 domains.

    P4 1.7 ghz, 512 ram, dual 80 gig HD....A dedicated now server

Is this a new error? .....Yes, just today

Have you upgraded Apache recently?...Nope, everything has been fine till today

Very weird. Is that a kernel you compiled yourself? Or is it a Dedicated Now generic kernel?

Try adding this to the very top of your httpd.conf file is you don't already have it:

    RLimitMEM 139492352
    RLimitCPU 120

    Then attempt to restart Apache.

You may also want to do this:

    killall -9 httpd
    killall -9 httpd
    killall -9 httpd
    httpd startssl

The 3 killall's are there on purpose just in case there are some lingering processes.

Let me know how that turns out and if there's any more errors in the apache error log.

    A dedicated now kernal

    Replaced settings with :
    RLimitMEM 139492352
    RLimitCPU 120

    Nothing to kill:

    httpd startssl: error

    root@root2 [//usr/local/apache/conf]# httpd startssl
Syntax error on line 2 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Invalid command 'Alias', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration
/usr/sbin/httpd startssl: httpd could not be started
    root@root2 [//usr/local/apache/conf]#

Same error when trying to restart apache: WHat now?????

By the way, Thanks for the help so far

Check line 2 or close to that of your httpd.conf....seems like there's an error with the implementation of an alias directive.

No idea. Anything that is able to write to Apache's config file could have caused that.

If there is trouble, it will find me
    See if this works:

    cd /usr/local/apache/conf
    mv httpd.conf.bak httpd.conf
    cp httpd.conf httpd.conf.bak
    service httpd restart
