    Newbie here.

I have a dedicated server leased from a hosting provider. I have two "sites" that I need to move from another server to this one. Let's call them "site1.com" and "site2.com." On both, I need to set up a "staging" site as well as the production site. I have 5 IPs available with my server package, and intended to use one for site1 and another for site2.

With the old RAQ4 server that I am migrating from, I can see how they set these up. There are host names for the www and staging sites, with each domain having the same IP for both host names. But I can't figure out how to do this with WHM/cPanel. I thought I could set up separate "accounts" for the www and staging site, with the same domain and IP, but it won't let me assign the same domain. I don't want to set up the staging area as a subdomain, because I need to publish from one to the other as separate sites.

I should also mention here that one thing greatly complicating things is that that one of these sites is a FrontPage site. Please don't just recommend that I dump FrontPage as that is not possible at this time, though i will be soon replacing this site with another one designed in Dreamweaver ;). I have to get these sites up and running and fully tested before we do the DNS change, as these are high traffic corporate sites.

Also, we have our own DNS and mail servers in house that will not live on this server. I just have to provide the IP info to our IT admin. who will handle the DNS change. I have the nameservers set up in WHM.

My question here is how do i set up the separate staging and www for each site. Currently on our RAQ4 box there are separate folders for staging.site1.com, www.site1.com, staging.site2.com and www.site2.com.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you have access to httpd.conf on your original server? Were the staging site and the live sight using the same port?

I found the httpd.conf file on the original server, and I think they are using the same port. Here are excerpts from the file that I think are relevant (domain and IP are the same for both, and are changed here to protect the innocent :) ):

    DocumentRoot /home/sites/site5/web
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^1.2.3.4:)80)?$
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^staging.mydomain.com:)80)?$
    RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://staging.mydomain.com/$1 [L,R]

    DocumentRoot /home/sites/site3/web
    ServerAlias mydomain.com www.mydomain.com
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^1.2.3.4:)80)?$
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.mydomain.com:)80)?$
    RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [L,R]
