HI,

I have a dedicated server which is used just for my website.

Today I noticed alot of emails being returned to my email box all addressed to a random email addy at my domain but sent to random accounts all appearing to be spam.

I am not that good with this side of servers so want guidance/help in sorting the problem out.

The headers of the emails look like:
Return-path: <[email protected]>
Received: from MYIP (HELO MYDOMAIN.com)
by typhoon.de with esmtp (;800D3C47A/ 1V;+)
id E2,3K*-2D'O/Z-M,
for [email protected]; Mon, 4 Dec 2006 20:27:07 -0060
Date: Mon, 4 Dec 2006 20:27:07 -0060
From: "Everett Jacobsen" <[email protected]>
X-Mailer: The Bat! (v2.00.3) Business
X-Priority: 3 (Normal)
Message-ID: <[email protected]>
To: [email protected]
Subject: Last offer- Discount special for PE patch almost over
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
boundary="----------C9A6780555555C1"
X-Spam: Not detected
I'm am getting aload of returned email from users who have out of office auto responds on. The email addy [email protected] doesn't belong to anyone but all @MYDOMAIN.com mail is forwarded to my junk inbox so it seems all spam from: [email protected] is being sent to a load of domains.

Where is the first place I should look to find out if my server is open or if we have a script on our server spamming?

All help welcome.

Thanks

Thanks for both your replies.

I disabled the default email addy which I use to like having but nevermind as my life is spam free now. Also it has stopped the emails I mentioned at start being sent.

The problem I expect was the default email being set to my account so all spam to my domain was forwarded to me and also couldnt existance of accounts when all were existed.

Thanks for your help.
