I'd like to chime in with a question if I could...

I currently have a dual Xeon 3.06ghz box with 4GB of RAM and SCSI drives. It currently hosts 160 domains w/ mailscanner.

Any "rough" estimate a machine like this could be maxed at?

Here is my current load from top:
top - 12:01:21 up 164 days, 1:37, 2 users, load average: 0.58, 0.42, 0.32

It's hard to have even a rough estimate because every machine is setup and run differently. Especially the websites you are hosting. If you host sites that run a lot of scripts like joomla or xoops then your machine will take up more resources.

For eg, your machine spec can run 1000 static sites no problem but when you run 100 dynamic sites, you machine will slowdown. How can that be predicted? Just be happy that you server is running fine. Load average of 0.5 is very good. Maybe you just keep on adding sites until you see the load going too high. Stop adding and buy a new server.

aubin, thanks for responding. Yea, i'd say most of these sites are low volume static sites. Though, they tend to push a lot of it just for e-mail.

Hey Brian

You are more than correct (is that possible?)

I actually migrated to a 2.4GHz Pentium with 1GB RAM....

I opted not to use MailScanner just yet...although it is a lovely program

So far...very very very little spam

SpamAssassin is working quite well in tandem with Rules DuJour

My average load is like 0.04....wooooo!!! :D
May I ask how you setup you Anti-SPAM policy?
