    Hi,

I am very new so please forgive my ignorance.
I've recently made a website and now i've bought a
dot com name and some space on a hostserver (peoplehost).
I have pointed the name server and whenever i type in
my dot com adress in a browser the index page with all my web-
    pages pops up.
However i dont want the index file to pop up but one specific
    file (from the index).
This is of course my homepage of my website.
Could anybody tell me how to make this link...
(i am using Cpanel and I tried a million of different things,
    unsuccesfull obviously.)
So when sombody types in MySite.com my homepage pops up and not the index file of apache....

    thanks in advance

Be aware this will turn off the directory listing for all users and accounts on the system. They can turn it back on for individual directories via the .htaccess file if they so choose.

Only other solution is to have a file like index.html in every directory where you do not want a directory listing available.

Your home page in the root directory of your domain account directory should have an index.html (or one of the others listed in your httpd.conf file) to keep with standard conventions. This will prevent the browser from adding a non-standard page name to the end of the URL when looking at your site.

    i.e. http://www.MySite.com as opposed to http://www.MySite.com/mypage.html etc...

    Hope this helps...

Sorry, I dont really understand these solutions
i simply only want my homepage to show up whenever somebody types in the 'dot com url'.
I dont want to take a solution that makes my site available for unwanted (mis)use.

    greetings,
    meeusen

You simply need to rename the page you want to appear to index.htm and that page will be displayed instead of the directory listing. I think that is what you mean.
