Due to someone hacking into my system, a number of executables disappeared (not all at once). When I couldn't get mysql working, I downloaded a new copy and installed it. It seems to work fine from the shell.

Can't access it via whm/cpanel. Says 'Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: YES)'

I can certainly access it from the shell with 'root@localhost'. I am guessing cpanel is trying to use a certain password.

How do I make it work with cpanel?

I can't believe it! I changed /root/.my.cnf to the correct root(mysql) password, all is well!
