Received a message from my host

"Your Hosting Account is Reaching its Backup inodes Number Limit".

Can anyone tell me what are inodes limit.

To quote wikipedia:

The inode is a data structure in a Unix-style file system that describes a filesystem object such as a file or a directory. Each inode stores the attributes and disk block location(s) of the object's data. Filesystem object attributes may include metadata (times of last change, access, modification), as well as owner and permission data.

Each file is associated with an inode and if you have a large number of files you'll also accumulate a large number of inodes. Many hosting providers regulate this as they would disk usage as most systems have a fixed number of inodes.

Do the high inodes cause low site speed?

Not necessarily, but the drive can become full which may cause your site to perform unreliably
