Hosting Email but pointing website to external IP

Hello,

I have seen were many people are hosting the website and pointing mail outside the server but I am doing the opposite. I am hosting the email and pointing the website to an external IP.

My problem is that email isn't working. The user only gets email from other users on that server. They don't get any outside email coming in.

What is the solution for fixing this? I know its related to setting up the A record that pointed the website to an outside IP because that is when email died.

Any thoughts from anyone are much appreciated.

I would try this:

change the domains IP to the IP the site is hosted at.

domain.com 14400 in A --> remote IP

Set up an A record for something like mail2.domain.com --> server main IP.
mx is set up next that say's

domain.com 14400 in MX mail2.domain.com

I haven't tested it but it seems like it should work

Not sure why you would choose cpanel (email) to pay though. That's the source of 80% of our support calls.
