Hi,

I am trying to start a hosting business and I am still sometimes get stuck when it comes to DNS zones in generals.

So, I have purchased a domain name "myhosting.com" through Ovh. Then I added my A records "host", "ns1" and "ns2," each of them pointing respectively to an IP address where I have installed a dedicated server and 2 vps servers as DNS servers (ns1.myhosting.com and n2.myhosting.com).

Once I configured all 3 servers I changed the nameservers in OVH by pointing them to ns1.myhosting.com and n2.myhosting.com so my dns are now managed locally.
I have also configured the clusters with the main server host.myhosting.com synchronised with the servers above.

Everything seems to work normally, I can add nee domains, subdomains and park new ones without any errors.

The problem is when I want to try to add a new server in the cluster. Since the dns are now managed locally I have added to myhosting.com zone an A record called host2 pointing to my new IP where I have installed another cpanel account. If I type host2.myhosting.com:2087 or any other port or just the hostname address it will not connect to the server as it cannot find it. The only way is only by typing the IP address.
I have tried so many different ways that I gave up to try as I cannot figure out what I ma missing or doing wrong.

Hope someone can help as this little matter is driving me crazy.

Hello,

Can you show an example of this? I'm not understanding how the cluster is set up or how you're adding cluster members. The guide to DNS cluster configurations may be helpful: Guide to DNS Cluster Configurations | cPanel & WHM Documentation
Hey Lauren,

I think my explanation was a bit confusing and the main point got missed, so I will try to make it simpler.

While the authoritative nameservers were in OVH I created an A record, pointed it to an IP address and it worked without any problem. Now that the authoritative nameservers are handled in cpanel (the nameservers ns1, ns2 that I have created) I have created another A record pointed to an IP address, but they don't work.
For instance I have added the A record "host2" pointing to 1.2.3.4. So when I type host2.myhosting.com it cannot find the page as it does not point to 1.2.3.4.

While are they not working? Why in OVH was that simple? What am I (definitely) missing?

Hello,

To confirm, you don't have a DNS cluster and DNS is all hosted locally. Meaning that ns1/ns2 should point to an Ip address/addresses that are local to the server.
When moved to hosting the domain locally did you update the GLUE records for the nameservers at your registrar? When you created the nameservers in cPanel how did you do it? This should be done at WHM>>Server Configuration>>Basic WebHost Manager Setup
