    Hello,

(sorry about my bad english, i hope u will understand whats problem/ what I mean)

why GD 2.0.33: because versions older than 2.0.28 dont support gif or transparent gif or gif-animations.

for a couple of days I try to install gd 2.0.33 but it doesnt work. I still see gd 2.0.15 when look in phpinfo.

    my server info :

    redhat 9
    cpanel
    p4 2.0
    apache 1.3.33
    php 4.3.3

I have installed it as I see on boutell.com/gd/

    I installed/uninstalled it manytimes
    I tried with (WHM) php 4.3.3., 4.3.9 , 4.3.10
    no success

I tried to buildapache without GD but I still see GD 2.0.15 in phpinfo.

    my question:

HOW CAN I MANUALLY UPGRADE TO GD 2.0.33 ?

    Thanks for any help

    Note: Before I post here

    - I have read all pages on boutell.com/gd/
    - I searched on google with many variations
    - I have searched on php.net and mailing lists
    - I have searched on Google groups
    - I have searched on forums.cpanel.net and webhostingtalk.com
(You cannot search just for 'GD', because word is too short..bad.. )
    - I have searched on redhat, some linux php tipps & tutorials sites etc..

The bundled GD with php isn't the same as what is released via the dev team. According to the php web site:
" Only supported in GD versions older than gd-1.6 and newer than gd-2.0.28. Read-only GIF support is available with PHP 4.3.0 and the bundled GD-library. Write support is avaliable since PHP 4.3.9 and PHP 5.0.1."

If you still want the latest version from the developers of GD, then you will most probably need to install it manually, then re-compile php by hand.

That's right. You need to recompile Php manually at the prompt. To enable GD-support configure Php with this swicth --with-gd=/usr/local/src/gd or whatever directory you installed GD on your server. Remember, GD library requires libpng and libjpeg to compile.

    Good luck!

honestly I never manually installed php on a linux system.
And I am not sure which procedure I must follow

I think it should be similar to that-

    cd /mytemp/installdir
    wget http://php.net/php-4.3.10.zip

    unzip php..zip

    ./configure
    ./make
    ./make install

    httpd restart

is there anything else that I must do?

    Thanks
