How can I let a user restart Tomcat safely?

    I've tried giving the catalina.sh scripts 6755 permissions, owned as root, with a group that the user is in, thus allowing them to start the script as if they were root.

    No dice though.

    I've tested it extensively. The user can stop the server, but thus far, only root can restart it. Which is obviously NOT good. :)

    Does anyone have ideas on how I can give my use this functionality?

    I recomend using sudo. Give the user sudo permisions for /scripts/restart_tomcat
