cPanel should automatically exclude the kernel from the daily yum updates anyway, however you can always ensure that this is specified to be excluded by editing /etc/yum.conf and modifying the line:

    exclude=

Just add kernel* to this line and the kernel will be excluded from command line yum updates as well then

    Thanks for your information!:)
I searched the forum, and got below aspect:
    http://forums.cpanel.net/f5/could-not-write-etc-yum-conf-328961.html#post1344312
Should I also run the command:
    touch /var/cpanel/checkyum-keepkernel

Yes, that will prevent the kernel exclusion line from being modified, however I would be more concerned as to why the kernel is being upgraded by cPanel anyway - you may wish to open a ticket with then for them to check this for you as it shouldn't be happening.

    Hello :)

To clarify, did you encounter a situation where your kernel was upgraded during the cPanel update process, or is this purely a question that you are asking ahead of time?

    Thank you.

My server provider told me cPanel cannot be installed successfully with a custom kernel software as cPanel upgrades kernel, but I don't think it's true, as my other server with the same provder running cPanel without problem.
I'm going to install cPanel by myself and see what will happen.

There are very few conditions under which we will upgrade the kernel. One of which is during a fresh installation.

The common case, once cPanel is installed, is we don't update the kernel.

The rare case is you have somehow configured the system to update the kernel when cPanel performs its nightly updates.
