How can I transfer a mysql databases ?

first im very proud to be member of this wonderfull forum
i have Q for smarty helper guys ...
How can I backup a mysql database ????
since i have dedicated server i want to know where is the mysql users database saved ??
....
i want to transfer those databases to another server
smart friend told me u should where mysql stored in ..then u compress it to gz file then u could transfer it with wget & decompress it wt the other server.....do any one have another way ??

i had alook to the script
but i keep need help
can anyopne tell me the steps
backup my databases from the server then transfer it to the new server
plz with exact path !!??
