I know very little about the WHM and scared to death to do anything on it I will mess up something. I recently found out my dedicated server is unmanaged. I would like to update my WHM but not sure what to do. I found the “update server software” and “update system software”. What happens if I click those? And will that update security also?

    Thanks

You should seek the help of someone with experience to get you going.
I strongly recommend you head over to
    http://www.configserver.com/cp/cpanel.html
    or
    http://www.platinumservermanagement.com/

Both are more than qualified to get you going.

If your determined to try to get going on your own then maybe check out

I also strongly recommend taking advantage of the search feature here. You can find the answer to almost anything related to cpanel or whm with it.

I printed the whole 200 plus page manual, put it in a notebook and read it several times but honestly it is not very user friendly. It is written for someone who already understands the terms and how web host functions. They desperately need a Cpanel for dummies book for people like me who are terrified of clicking the wrong thing and messing stuff up. I have search for a book to explains the basics of web hosting for years but there is nothing out there.

Thanks for the using the search feature idea. I don’t go to forum much and it never crossed my mind.
