I have always wondered, while checking the CPU/MySQL usage using WHM under server status as to how these load averages are calculated. If a certain process is shown as using 90% CPU usage, what does it mean .i.e How is this CPU usage calculated .. how is the entire load averaged out.. Any clear answers on this one ?

It basically looks at what a top would show you. I don't think it is completely accurate at times as we will see higher loads in WHM than we do while top is running.

Any techical response from the Cpanel guys would be appreciated. We use this as a way to tell our clients that their scripts are overloading the server - but without knowing exactly how this load average is calculated and the variables involved - it doesn't give much a leg to stand on :D

    Any idea folks ?
