Speaking of spell checkers
I guess when I was in school, my English teachers never bothered with spelling. Either that, or us Canadians spell a lot of words differently.
For example, seperate (separate), is one of several words where I use the wrong vowel, but I've been spelling it that way for as long as I can remember. Teachers never corrected me so it must be the correct Canadian spelling.
I switched email programs (to Thunderbird) a while ago and started using the spell checker and am surprised at the number of words I know are spelt write. :D
