I have just bought a dedi and have the following info:

    - SSH IP
    - Root PW
    - cPanel Link

Should I not have been given a username and pw for my main whm account? Or do i need to create this in ssh, and how.

To access the cPanel, http://IP:2086 username should be root, and then the password given to you by your DC.

Login for WHM would be http://IP:2082

    User name : root
    password: (as your choice)

CPanel can be used once users are created.
