    Hi,

I was thinking of using HTTrack to copy my geocities website and using FileZilla as my FTP.

I couldn't be the first one to do this.
What would be the best way?
Does a cookbook procedure already exist.

Does it make any difference using MacOSX or Window?

    Any pointers would be helpful?

Note: I don't want to loose my relative links!!!!

The only difference between MacOS and Windows would just be the software you choose to use to do that.

As for what you are asking though, yes you can capture the site with a crawler and then upload your Geocities account files to a new web site to edit.

I have used a program called "BlackWidow" to capture sites from there and other template based hosting sites that don't allow direct file access for a number of clients and then uploaded their files to new hosting accounts without any problems whatsoever. They can then update the links and make any changes they need while retaining their content on the new site.

So to answer your question though -- YES, you can do what you are asking! ;)

HTTrack are GNU - Open Source programs they run on both Windows and MacOSX (and Linux)

    I got this reply:

We recommend that you use FTP to upload all your website files, and then create a database, import your data, then update your DNS server

    What does it mean?????????
