Hi, I am a website owner with a hosted domain service. I use wordpress for my site.
I would like to create email accounts for my students through the domain name, and have tried to do this in cPanel, however it looks like i will always have access to view these email accounts, and thereby have access to personal information that is shared by email among my students.

Is there a way that i can provide email accounts, that I create in cPanel or similar, but am them prevented access to with the users creating their own passwords once i send them the initial welcome letter?

Thanks
Tony

The administrator of any account will always have access to view the email accounts. There's not a way to create accounts like that. This is the same for any service that I'm aware of since you'll always have root access to the server as the administrator and all of this is stored within the mail directory on the server.

So in other words there is no way to ensure the privacy of my students email accounts? Is there a way to at least track when log in occurs on their account, as I would like to provide them with security, and knowledge that I wont have access to their information. I'm a bit concerned, as i may need to provide root access to another user in the future, and this will also allow them to access the students email. It seems like a potential major breach of privacy.

Their privacy is not compromised, an administrator to an account would always have access to the other email accounts. This works the same way for most services, Google and Microsoft Exchange for instance:

Any responsible company or organization would have this capability for the administrator of the accounts, to not allow this would be negligible. In a lot of cases, there is a need for this in the event of employee separation/investigations, Student Misconduct, harassment etc.. Furthermore, since it's assumed the administrator would have access to the mail directory in file manager (if not via SSH) email in every account is accessible.
