Thanks Anand ... yet, I hung right on the next step now:

    ------------------------
    # mkdir /root/install/exiscan
    # cd /root/install/exiscan
    # wget http://duncanthrax.net/exiscan-acl/exiscan-acl-4.34-21.patch
    # cd /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/exim-4.34
    # patch -p1 < /root/install/exiscan/exiscan-acl-4.34-21.patch
    -------------------------

There is no /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/ directory on any of my RH 9 cPanel servers.
No /src/ directory with exim in it anywhere.

What should I do? Get the exiscan enabled exim src here and then compile that???
    ftp://ftp.exim.org/pub/rpms-for-exim/SRPMS/

BY THE WAY, after installing this, if I continue to update cPanel with the regular releases -- will this be overwritten?

The problem is.. Most viruses are autosent by the computer, not the person. A person sending an infected file is very very very low nowadays.

Yeah, but that's not my fault. People have hijacked my e-mail address before, too. The thing is that sometimes virus scanners wrongly detect images or whatever if the filenames are in a language other than English. I recently had a customer who was desperate to see a picture of the flowers he sent his mother for Mother's Day. The picture was rejected as dangerous because the filename was in Japanese. Fortunately, mailscanner had quarantined the file and I was able to send it to the client after renaming it.

I don't care if the mail is rejected entirely, as long as the flower company is made aware of the fact that their e-mail has not been delivered (for the sake of my client, not the flower company).

    Question.. but pretty sure..
If you are using clamav and exiscan, that file would of not been stoped, cause it was rejected by mailscanners extra features, to stop it, cause of file name settings.

Using exiscan/clamav this should of passed right through.

someone correct me if I am wrong..

I know this is something I have been wanting for a good while as I never cared much for those extra things mailscanner does..anyways! ( that is why 99% of them have been commented out ... along with cpanels anti-virus thing that blocks all exec files... gotta comment that thing out too. )

Still waiting to see a good how-to for the new exim...

This works quite nice.. really like it.. I used exim+exiscan that is in /scripts/exim4, so I was able to skip all those steps for installing it.

Only problem I ran into was I had a previous version of clamav installed, and this one installed in a different dir's... But when I called the commands it would try and start the wrong ones. Not till I copied the new ones from /bin to /sbin ( coping over the old ones ) that my problems went away.

Good lesson, remove old version of clamav, before you install new one.

hehe, also remove mailscanner before you start as well.. but that did not interfer as much as the old version of clamav did.

How did you get exiscan working? I just tried it, but I don't think exiscan is doing anything.

One thing, is you got to watch where you place the acl part.
It is very improtant to put it in the right place.

I did three tries, before I realized I did not put it in the exactly right place.( read the instructioins carefully for that part )

I know i use aussie's exim changes he has posted from the ev1 forums also.. Works great with that as well. ( plus a few other modifications.. )

That is what I used to test the virus checker with and it was working great at rejecting them at the MTA level.

Exactly the problem I was having. Thanks. Additionally, now that it is working for me, do you know how I can add an x-header to say something like
    like Mailscanner had?

That one is beyond me. I know just enough to get me into trouble.. with exim... ( it always comes down to proper syntax with exim.. right place at the right time... ) but if you do find it, pass it on.. I might be interested in that as well.
