I want to log into my server with root access (so I can navigate all files on the server)... I have seen this done before, but not sure how to do it,

    thanks!

Which FTP server are you using. It is not recommended to enable ftp for root users as it transfers password in plain text suring authentication.

Logging in as root to a ftp server is a bad idea. Use SCP/SFTP, there's a great Windows program called WinSCP you can use for this purpose.

Another great program is FileZilla, connecting via SFTP for root user.
