Is there any way to move all the accounts from one server to a new server and keep the same IPs with very little down time?

I have the new server with ip .60, the old uses .61 - .67 (lots of SSL certs).

If I use the transfer program it will screw everything up and give the sites new ip of .60 and there won't be enough ips, unless I deactivate them all first on the old server)

    How should I do this?

Should I just try to restore a full backup of the whole server so it has everyones data, email, sql, dns, etc? And then after restoreing it all, turn the ips off on old server and on on new server?

    Dear Woogs,

There is no way to keep the same ips however, it is possible to move an account from one server to another without any downtime. You would be assigned another IP address and possibly new name servers for your domain. You only need to copy the files over to the new server, email accounts etc. Then change your domain name servers and wait 48 hours to delete the files on the old server.

rather than just 48 hours to delete the files from the old server check the stats on that old server regularly and ensure that nobody visits the affected accounts you want to move anymore. This may at times take more than 48 hours (a few days in the worst case)

I can assure you that there are quite a few providers atround whose DNS database can still point to the old Nameservers even after a few days!!

I just used the same IP on my new server so the IP did not change rather than changing it and waiting for DNS to update.

We just have the hard drive moved to the new server.... quick and easy, no loss of IPs or much downtime.
