Hello
Change all passwords, root password, restrict whm login with Host Access Control to dedicated ip,install csf to your server, install cxs scanner and now your server is 99% secure ;)

You can set up a fixed ip address for your self and block all other IPs from accessing certain ports. You obviously have to leave 2083 open for your clients to access cpanel. But you can lock down 2087 and a few other vulnerable ports. It's a bit restrictive as you can only access the server from one location. But I think it's pretty safe. At least that's what I have done for my server.
I don't know if that's a standard or effective way of doing it, if anyone has any feedback on it I'd be interested to hear.

It's a good idea to start reading the control panel vendor's information. Feel free to refer to the following link
Tips to Make Your Server More Secure | cPanel & WHM Documentation for more information on how to secure your server.

For further ideas, you can have a close look at what a reputable system administrator does as part of the hardening service they offer.

We harden every VPS or dedicated server before providing access to the client.

It's important to note that once-off hardening isn't enough. The servers have to be updated, maintained and regularly audited.

Please ensure you keep backups too so in the event of an emergency, you can roll back.

Hope that helps!
