How to set smtp require authentication

I have a web server with cpanel,
cent os 4.3
I need to enable smtp require authentication, because now is possible send e-mail trough SMTP without any password.
How can I do that?
My support company want install phpsuexec.....:confused: I don't want it in my server.
How can I enable it?
I'm not an expert :p
