how to stop named?

    is named important? i think i do not need that service but everytime i kill named, cpanel always automagically restart it.

    how to completely stop named?

    named ( aka bind ) handles the DNS on your system, if you aren't managing DNS on that system and have no need for it you can disable it in the following way:

    # First backup / remove the chkservd files:
    mkdir /etc/chkservd_backup
    mv /etc/chkserv.d/bind /etc/chkservd_backup/
    rm /var/run/chkservd/bind
    service chkservd restart

    #Next kill the bind services
    service named stop

    #Next, stop bind from starting up at system startup
    chkconfig named off

    /scripts/restartsrv_named
    mv /etc/chkservd_backup/bind /etc/chkserv.d/
    service chkservd restart
    chkconfig --level 3 named on
