It's probably a bug in the distribution (they didn't upgrade the version number correctly). It wouldn't have anything to do with how you upgraded ;)

hmm... not able to execute the UPGRADE file... just shows me some syntax info and instructions concerning a TAR or RPM..

Did i miss a step?

here's what I can't execute...

upgrade_MailScanner_conf MailScanner.conf MailScanner.conf.new > MailScanner.new
also getting the following errors:

/usr/mailscanner/etc/reports/en/languages.conf
Apr 3 23:00:47 server145 MailScanner[24273]: Looked up unknown string mailscanner in language translation file /usr/mailscanner/etc/reports/en/languages.conf

I just went through the whole process myself again, using my own HOWTO and it worked OK ;)

I would guess so. You have to be carefull not to cut&paste more than a line at a time from the HOWTO as there are often questions asked. Onc answered, any subsequent pastes from the same batch are lost.

/usr/mailscanner/etc/reports/en/languages.conf
Apr 3 23:00:47 server145 MailScanner[24273]: Looked up unknown string mailscanner in language translation file /usr/mailscanner/etc/reports/en/languages.conf
Have a look for /usr/mailscanner/etc/reports/en/languages.conf.new and rename it to /usr/mailscanner/etc/reports/en/languages.conf

It's mentioned in the HOWTO:

"At this point you should edit MailScanner.conf and make any modifications that you want to new settings added by the upgrade.

In particular, search the file for "Custom Functions Dir" and change the value from /opt/MailScanner/blah to /usr/mailscanner/blah"

I'm afraid I don't know. I can only guess that you missed out a step. I would suggest backing it off and trying again:

mv mailscanner mailscanner.duff
mv mailscanner.old mailscanner

Then start again.

Certainly, from /usr/mailscanner/etc/MailScanner.conf:

Custom Functions Dir = /usr/mailscanner/lib/MailScanner/CustomFunctions

Hello Chirpy,

Great How to from you...it worked like anything on my 2 servers. But i got a small question. I checked my server by sending test viruses from www.testvirus.org..and found that the following were still not been scanned by mailscanner + clamav + f-prot.(all upgraded to latest)

Test #20: Eicar virus within zip file hidden using the "MIME Boundary Space Gap Vulnerability"

Test #21: Eicar virus within zip file hidden using the "Long

Test #23: Eicar virus within zip file hidden using the "Empty MIME Boundary Vulnerability"

Do u got any idea on this ....that how could i secure my server from these type of viruses.

Servers with Mailscanner + ClamAv have open realys

Does any one how to fix this? I don´t want to fix certain opens relays, I think servers with Mailscanner needs to fix this problem if you don't want to be consider a spammer.

This can fix a relay, but in few minuts, there will be new open realys:

/scripts/fixrelayd
/etc/rc.d/init.d/antirelayd restart
service exim restart

Hello Anand, I have more than 5 servers and only the servers that has installed Mailscanner and ClamAv sends all messages with open relay. I think that mailscanner uses open relay with exim to deliver email scanned.

And I think you know the problem to send emails to other domains with SpamAssassin :MSGID_FROM_MTA_SHORT Message-Id was added by a relay 3.3 pts.

Perhaps I am worried, but I think the solutions is not to change the filter from 5 to 6 or to fix open relays with /scripts/fixrelayd. I think is a problem from Mailscanner and his implementation in Cpanel. At this moment, we wont install Mailscanner in other servers.
