every time when a new account is created on your server cpanel create a htaccess file by default if the account does not have one ... .htaccess is hidden by default ... if you acces from file manager must check the to show the hidden files

If you want a default .htaccess file, you can put it in the folder /root/cpanel3-skel/public_html by logging in via SSH as root. Details about this directory are available in WHM under "Account Functions >> Skeleton Directory".

You cannot edit this file from WHM. You need to log into cPanel of this account either via user/pass or via root override in "WHM >> List Accounts" where there is a cPanel icon that logs you into cPanel.

You need to have Apache mod_rewrite enabled to add rewrite rules in .htaccess. You can check this by running the command below via SSH as root.

    Code:
    /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd -l |grep mod_rewrite

    Output should be like this.

    Code:
    -bash-3.2# /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd -l |grep mod_rewrite
      mod_rewrite.c
