hundreds of httpd processes after MailScanner upgrade

Hello,

I just upgraded to the latest MailScanner using Chirpy's free MailScanner installation script.
Shortly after that I've noticed very high server load and many (400 - 500) httpd processes making POST /mailscanner/rpcserver.php requests.

Any ideas what could be the reason ?
