I tried to change the password in the cpanel server. After I change the password, I was unable to log-in to my website. Wgen I change back to the original password, I can log-in to my admin area in the website. Can anyone tell me what is wrong? I am new to cpanel

Do you log into the WebHost Manager as root, or do you only log into cPanel with your account username and password? If you do not log into the WebHost Manager (WHM) as root, or do not know what this is, you will need to contact your host for assistance with changing your password.

As per your query I think you are using cPanel user name and root user password to access cPanel. Try to change password from shell for root user as well as cPanel user.

Login in to shell run following command to change password for root user.

    passwd

And for example you are not able to access cPanel account for your user bob, then reset the password for bob user as well from shell

    passwd bob

Note : You can use your own user name instead of user name bob.
