I am not sure if this is a fix for you but I have seen something like this before.
When you install software and there are existing files already inplace it will give you an error.
So, if you have for example a file /home/username/www/index.php in place and you then click on install mambo it will error out because it also tries to install an index.php in the same path.

Try moving everything under /home/username/www/* to /home/username/www/OLD and then installing mambo.
OR backup what you do have there and erase all dirs and files under
/home/username/www/
and then attempting to install mambo.

If you can't delete files via cPanel's file manager / FTP manager and you can't delete the files using a standalone FTP client you should try and delete the files via root SSH.

if you don't have root access to the server, i.e. if you just have a cPanel account but don't own/rent the entire server, you should contact your host as the can and should be able to delete files that you don't have the permission to.

Yes, contact your hosting company and sk them to delete the files for you. It is their responsibility and they should help you.

You should also tell your host provider that you where unable to delete these files because its an indication that they did not set the right permissions for your account.
