I noticed I'm getting a lot of viruses mailed to the cpanel. Am I safe?

I ran a clamav scan on the mail and found a bunch of viruses, even though just a couple months age i ran a scan and cleaned it.

My question is, if I never open any mails on the server itself (they are all sent to google apps), am I safe from these viruses? Or can they still hurt me if I don't clean it regularly?

Additionally, is there a way to circumvent this and prevent from ever getting emailed viruses in the first place?

To clarify, are you still receiving emails on the cPanel server even though your mail is hosted by Google? Or, do you mean your messages are forwarded to Google?

I believe you are looking for the following option under the "Mail" tab in "WHM Home » Service Configuration » Exim Configuration Manager":

"Allow mail delivery if malware scanner fails"

Per it's description:

If the virus/malware scanner fails, you can choose to defer all mail delivery that would normally be scanned by disabling this option. Note: if you do choose to disable this option and the virus/malware scanner fails, mail users will not get new messages until it is repaired.
