ibdata1 is eating up more and more of our /var partition. So can we just do this?:
    -------------------
    cd /home
    mkdir /home/mysql
    chown mysql:mysql /home/mysql
    chmod 751 /home/mysql

    cd /var/lib/mysql
    service mysql stop
    mv ibdata1 /home/ibdata1
    ln -s /home/ibdata1 /var/lib/mysql/ibdata1
    service mysql start
    -------------------

Anything wrong with using the above described method?

    Thanks for any help here.

Anyone? My /var is at 91% and the ibdata1 is taking up the most room in var for any one file.

Thanks INFOPRO but your response had lead me into a circle. My question is if ibdata1 can be moved and symlinked. The thread you sent me to also does not answer this question.

Thanks but you missed my question again. No problem, I found the answer on another web board.

    My question was:

    -------------

So can we just do this?:
    -------------------
    cd /home
    mkdir /home/mysql
    chown mysql:mysql /home/mysql
    chmod 751 /home/mysql

    cd /var/lib/mysql
    service mysql stop
    mv ibdata1 /home/ibdata1
    ln -s /home/ibdata1 /var/lib/mysql/ibdata1
    service mysql start
    -------------------

Possibly. My thoughts were from those posts I linked you to though that the answer you were seeking was probably yes sure, and here's some background to assist you in doing what you want to do.

Since I have not myself done what you seek to do, by me just replying yes might imply that I know personally that it would be ok to do it, I don't, other than what I read in those linked threads. So, I choose not give you a definitive answer, just more links to addtional Info on the topic.

Sorry for the confusion in trying to help get you sorted.
