I'd love to run a test platform for CPanel...

    ... But I have absolutely no idea how to go about doing that without obtaining and paying for a separate license just for testing. Is there a process to go through, and will a VPS suffice for a test platform?

    There are no test licences, therefore as you hve mentioned a VPS is the most cost effective way to do this. cPanel has all the same functionality on the VPS version and so is fine for testing

    What do you mean by "test platform for cPanel"?

    Would this be for ensuring compatibility with an application you develop?

    Making sure things are compatible with external services I run, whether I develop them or not. Also determining how certain features will interact with the system before I decide whether or not to enable them on a production machine.
