I want to set imap connection limit for outside connections to 5 and leave it at 50 for local connections (webmail).

I found that it can be done by putting

    127.0.0.1 allow,MAXCPERIP=50

    into mail access file.

But where's the access file that courier-imap uses? Editing /etc/mail/access doesn't seem to have any effect.

    you should go to /usr/lib/courier-imap/etc

and there are many files of different services i.1 imapd and imapd-ssl and you can increase Imap connection limit from there.

    Thanks
