It seems that IMAP has failed on all of our FreeBSD CPanel servers on Sunday. Tried updating to all the available builds, except EDGE, as well as restarting them, but it still fails.

Had the same thing happen on one of our machines. We had to recompile apache with getext and IMAP mod. Should be ok then.

Once done, make sure horde is ok by running

touch /var/cpanel/usecpphp

There has been a few bugs in FREEBSD builds an hope that Nick and crew are fixing them.

Just to update, the EDGE build is broken too.

The IMAP deamon does not log anything at all, rather just won't start/bind to its port. WHM itself reports:

"inetd has failed, please contact the sysadmin."

Yeah, I also have the same problem, and the apache recompile didn't work to fix the problem, if you figure anything out make sure you post it here.

Thanks

hmm

Same problem here I get groovy, "Login disabled" due to IMAP not supporting clear text or something or other, opened a bug report because Exims totaly refusing to run anymore unless I reboot and trying the manual startup scripts doesn't seem to do much. FreeBSD + cpanel seems rather 'unstable' either got that stupid memory leak bug from upcp (which ya can fix but its a bug I shouldn't need to fix myself) or the 'stable' version of cpanel turning unstable over night.

Just upgraded to;

WHM 9.4.0 cPanel 9.7.1-C4
FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE i386 - WHM X v3.1.0

Horde is still broke, you still need to run;

touch /var/cpanel/usecpphp

Too many problems with FreeBSD...
I agree that there are many problems, I just think that cpanel is rushing releases to catch up with the linux tree, with then the linux tree had a big jump start on Freebsd tree.

Thanks

True True

It is true the FreeBSD build is held together with paper and string, is the Linux build like this? I really, REALLY don't want to have to turn around to the boss and tell him I need to format the server and change to Linux, because I'm really not to up to date with Linux. Imapd is now fixed by replacing the binary and updating exim, but currently were only in our trial stages of cpanel still as bugs keep appearing and the boss does not trust it to be stable enough to move his company sites to, and promote it to his clients.
Im gona guess the cpanel staff for the FreeBSD build is problerly only one person who is porting it from Linux and maybe the cpanel admins don't seem to understand there like chalk and cheese Linux and Freebsd, but what I don't understand is why there expanding to other OS's like Windows, when the current supported list is not even finished, the Cpanel FreeBSD build should not be classed as completed and stable.

I really do hope they deligate more resources to the FreeBSD branch of cpanel, because the softwares excellent but the porting is poor.

Regards,
Nathan

From what I have seen...They are developing CentOS which is a FREE distro of Red Hat. I wish Cpanel would chim in and let us know when/why tickets, and bugs reported would/should/will be fixed?? How about it Nick? Can someone from cpanel please respond?

cpanel need to stop developing for new OS's and new fetunes and start fixing problems at hand. Take Plesk for an example doesn't have near as many fetures as cpanel but it is really solid.

Thanks

If you don't know how to use FreeBSD, use CentOS.. any decent FreeBSD administrator would have solved these problems already. :cool:
Zack I think you need to read the whole thread before making off the wall comments that don't make sence. We where not talking about just one problem but many problems. Go run your post count up in a new thread!

Thanks

Seth,

If you know how to administer the server you have NO problems. I never have a problem with freebsd on cpanel. People like to blame cpanel when the real problem is them self.

Perhaps you misunderstood..

..any decent FreeBSD administrator would have solved these problems already....
I don't see where I made a reference to a single problem.

Also on the same note I work on FreeBSD servers professionally, I do know what I'm talking about here. :cool:

Edit: I run two FreeBSD servers, one 4.10 and one 5.2.1 operating quite nicely purring along with no troubles.
