For some reason, our DC had to reboot our server. All services came up fine except imap. Tried to do a restart via whm...and got this:

    Attempting to restart inetd
    Waiting for inetd to restart.... . . . . . . . . . . finished.

    inetd status

    root 18303 0.0 0.0 2140 828 ? S 15:52 0:00 xinetd -stayalive -pidfile /var/run/xinetd.pid

inetd has failed, please contact the sysadmin.

I then researched the hell out of the error and have basically tried everything located both here on cpanel.net but also webhostingtalk.com regarding the issue.

Does anybody have any help they can lend to this? I've even updated to the latest stable version of cpanel/whm and all the backend stuff. Thanks.

    Go on, have a guess
What OS and version are you using? You shoud usually be restarting xinetd not inetd:

    service xinetd restart

then check /var/log/messages for the xinetd startup. You can check whether imap is running with:

    netstat -lpn | grep 143

Well the imapd problem is figured out.

    It wasn't in /etc/services/ - don't know how that got delated/f'd up.

No just to tackle the problem that it doesn't seem like any mail is flowing in/out of the server even though exim is running.
