IMAP message retrieval problems with Blackberry

Hi All,

I thought this was an issue I alone had, but now I've got a client that is having the same problem. I had gotten a new Blackberry and the new models (at least with a couple providers) don't let you set the protocol for retrieving email. Instead, it figures out what protocol it will use, in this case, IMAP, and doesn't let you change it.

The problem I was having is that I was getting maybe half of my emails on the Blackberry. Despite there being many more on the server (WHM 11.15.0 cPanel 11.18.1-C20683), it would randomly pull some but not all. I worked with the wireless company and after several hours, we couldn't figure out a way to change to POP, so I canceled the service.

Now, I have one of my hosting clients with the exact same problem. Has anyone else run into this problem with IMAP and is there anything I can do to rectify it?

I have a potential customer that wants assurances that he can get mail pushed to his Blackberry. While doing some forum searches, I found this thread.

It also had the tendency to pull in mail from a year or two ago and mark it as new. What I finally did was switch to using a forwarder. The nasty drawback is when sending email, it is sent using the Blackberry email address, instead of your actual email address. Replies thus go to the blackberry rather than the actual account.

You can change the reply-to address with your provider (this is not a software-level setting). I know T-Mobile and AT&T support such a thing. If you set the reply-to address to the main email address your recipients should reply to, this will mean the email will go both to that account and your blackberry in such a scenario (not just your BlackBerry). I use this setup myself on the BlackBerry I use.

However, note with a forwarding setup that server-side mail rules will be processed before the mail is forwarded. Therefore, if you are sorting mail into folders using server-side mail rules, only unsorted mail will forward to your BlackBerry in a cPanel/WHM environment.

Uk Blackberry

Hi All,
It seems that all the above was to do with USA side Blackberry.

I'm thinking of getting a Blackberry through Vodafone, here in the UK.
Has anybody had any experience with this combination?

You shouldn't have to do anything special for this to work. There is about a 5-10 minute lag getting your messages on the phone however. You can just forward the mail to the blackberry account and change the reply-to if you need near instant messages (however you lose reconciliation).
