    Hi,

Anyone else got problems with their IMAP server? On oneof our servers IMAP just seems to have stopped responding, all connections to it just time out when using Outlook or using IMP running from the server. I can run /usr/sbin/imapd and it'll come up fine for me to enter command manually, but even then it doesn't seem to want to take the LOGIN command at all.

    Thanks,

Just checked on the server for something else, and noticed that when I try an IMAP login, imapd sits there using 99% CPU until it's killed.

    /scripts/resetimappasswds
    killall -9 imapd
    service xinetd restart

    Try again.

I believe what causes this slowness is IMAP checks identd, and the timeout is set for like 30-90 seconds. Therefore if you block ident like a lot of people do imap just sits and hangs (or retrys and retrys) until it gets a response, this slows it down a lot.

Turned out to be a problem writing to the /tmp partition, although it gave no indications at all.

Power cycle the server (Or get someone to login from the keyboard), sounds very much like your /tmp partition is full.

Nickn - how long have you seen it hang for/ Sometimes I have a connection hang for hours if not days. This causes a problem because if one is careless, all emails sent from the other IMAP boxes simply sit in the outbox until the hung process on a particular box has been reset manually, or rectifies itself (which seems to me sometimes may never happen)

Once the hung box has had the connection terminated then the mail program can resume send/receive operations for the other boxes in the mail program.

Have you or any one else seen a similar circumstance?
