    service xinetd stop (repeat this command twice)
    killall -9 imapd (repeat this command twice)
    service imapd start

    Try IMAP again.

    How do you re-install imap through cpanel.

    Is there a update script for this?

    I have the same problem.

    Try to

    pico /etc/xinetd.d/imap
    Change the line server = imapd into
    server = /usr/sbin/imapd
