When I try to restart mysql I get this error:

mysql has failed, please contact the sysadmin (result was "/usr/bin/mysqlshow: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)"). Nov 11 19:52:30 host mysql: safe_mysqld Nov 11 19:52:30 host mysql: mysqld Nov 11 19:52:30 host mysql: mysqld_safe Nov 11 19:52:30 host mysql: mysqld Nov 11 19:52:30 host rc: Stopping mysql: failed Nov 11 20:09:43 plain rc: Starting mysql: succeeded Nov 11 20:20:36 plain rc: Starting mysql: succeeded Nov 11 20:55:11 plain rc: Starting mysql: succeeded Nov 11 22:03:02 plain rc: Starting mysql: succeeded Nov 11 23:25:29 plain rc: Starting mysql: succeeded

I have tried all this (and nothing works):

    1) A lot of times:
    service mysql stop
    /etc/rc.d/init.d/chkservd stop
    rm -rf /tmp/mysql.sock
    rm -rf /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
    service mysql start
    /etc/rc.d/init.d/chkservd start
    ln -s /tmp/mysql.sock /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
    ln -s /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock /tmp/mysql.sock

    2) Reboot server

    3) Reset Local MySQL Root Password

    4) fixmysql, nomodauthmysq, fixmysqlbsd

In /var/lib/mysql/server.domian.com.err I get this errors:

    031112 04:19:04 mysqld started
031112 4:19:04 Can't start server : Bind on unix socket: Permission denied
031112 4:19:04 Do you already have another mysqld server running on socket: /tmp/mysql.sock ?
    031112 4:19:04 Aborting

    031112 4:19:04 /usr/sbin/mysqld: Shutdown Complete

    031112 04:19:04 mysqld ended

I need to have mysql working, any ideas??

The error message when starting MySQL is self explanatory.

I know its self explanitory, but if he was able to figure that out, he would not be asking. Maybe it might be better to indulge him and let him know, rather than patronize him?

thumbs down. Sorry, but I couldn't resist. You're acting as if you were born with the knowledge. Being helpfull costs nothing.
